Wildlife care

Date

Since 2012

As a wildlife keeper for over twelve years, I have been in charge of a total of 4 animal collections, which include over 500 individuals of around 120 species between them. I have worked as a caretaker of psittacidae and, to a lesser extent, of other animals, such as many other types of birds (columbiformes, passerines, pelecaniformes...), mammals (barking deer, kinkajou, wallabies), reptiles (water and land turtles of different species, common iguana). I currently have several groups of mantled howler monkeys (Alouatta palliata) under my care, which depend on my work as a pre-release and release manager for their successful rehabilitation and release into the wild.

In the field of wildlife care, I have taken on the role of manager of several animal collections, both in the zoo and in wildlife refuges. In this regard, I have performed tasks related to the organization and management of animal care, for example, developing animal welfare programs, which includes planning diets, designing and enabling the architecture of the enclosures, implementing environmental enrichment programs, as well as training animals, both for exhibitions and for daily handling and behaviors for medical purposes. I have also been in charge of rehabilitation programs for various species of animals native to Costa Rica for their rehabilitation and release into the wild.
